The look is really impressive. I have not heard the price tag yet, but if the numbers make sense
I think we might have a winner. It certainly keeps the best of the old, and gives the appearance of an all new facility.
I assume an increased ticket price comes along with it, so there will be drawbacks, but an extra 1000 seats makes for some interesting possibilities. Maybe another 500 season ticket holders?
The pics I have seen look absolutely awesome. This interior pic looks good, but if that’s a view from the cheap seats, it’s a looong way back there!
But it would, I think, accomplish the objective of giving UK an arena that is second to none, and keeping the tradition of Rupp. Best of both worlds? I think so.
I’m all for chairbacks in the upper section where I usually get tickets.
Side note: “State of the Merged Government speech” doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like “State of the Union speech” or “State of the Commonwealth speech”, does it?
I am all for the new design and look. My hope is that with adding extra seats and luxury suites of some kind, the revenue from them will keep season ticket holders from a drastic increase. They already go up just about every season.
But I still remember my dad’s thoughts about bucket seats: They’re too small for my bucket. Overall, looks great. I assume there will be boards for players that include score, not just time and shot clock. An overhead is very difficult for a player to see. I don’t say that from experience, since they used a sundial when I played.
or perhaps they’re ignoring this but it only says that up to 1000 new lower arena seats will be added. It speaks nothing of the final total number of seats available in the arena. Now I don’t claim to be an engineer but I will say that I think it’s just logic that the replacement of bleachers with seats with backs in the upper arena will require a pretty drastic reduction of seats up there. I’m all for a dramatic renovation of the arena, but if it comes at the expense of tickets that are available for the general public then I’m not going to be a big fan. And without exact specs, which of course are a long way out, I’m thinking that the addition of premium suites and seats with backs in the upper decks will end up reducing the amount of tickets that most people are able to purchase (i.e. upper arena).

I do love the idea of replacing the facade

I thought the updated Rupp was to have less seats than now. Wrong?

I guess ...

People are not noticing...

If that is indeed the case, it's too bad about not getting more seating, but another 1000 seats in the lower arena is still a huge benefit
I really hope we do not lose overall capacity
