Big Blue Nation Linkapalooza: Nationally-Televised Practice Edition

Wow, a nationally-televised practice. In mid-season. Surpassingly strange, but with John Calipari in charge of Kentucky, I have ceased to be amazed by anything that winds up being televised. What's next, one-on-one coaching drills?

Now, for the news:

Top 10 Freshmen Centers in College Basketball History

I think it's a bit too early for this, especially considering the season isn't over. You have to figure this changes if Davis goes on to break the NCAA block record and Kentucky wins the national championship. There is no doubt whatever he would supplant Purvis Ellison on anyone but a Louisville fan's list.

Dear Duke, Happy Valentines Day " CBS Charlotte

No Tar Heel fan can hear the name Christian Laettner without getting a little sick in their mouth. Although he only sports a 5-6 record against the Heels, he played like a thorn in the side for any anti-Blue Devil. His credentials while at Duke were very impressive and we all remember the legendary shot he had against Kentucky. In fact, I’m pretty sure it is against ESPN’s religion to talk about the NCAA tournament and not bring that shot up. We get it – he hit a buzzer beater – move on. Show the clip where he stomped on the Kentucky guy’s chest. Where do you think Ndamukong Suh learned to do it? Between the super short shorts and his New Kids on the Block haircut he is the king Duke-bag.

The rest of this is just as good. As anti-Duke rants go, I give this an A+. Don't miss it.

David Jones: Kentucky could be best SEC has seen in decades // floridatoday.com

Before expansion in the early ’90s, SEC teams played a double round-robin, 18-game conference schedule. No team ever ran the table when the conference schedule featured 18 games with three going 17-1 (Kentucky in 1970 and 1986, LSU in 1981). Since the league schedule was cut to 16 games, Kentucky has gone undefeated in SEC play in 1996 and 2003.

Who Deserves To Win College Basketball's Coach Of The Year? It's A Close Race // SBNation.com

The easiest thing to do with Calipari is to say, "look at all the pros he has on his team, all he has to do is pick five guys to put on the floor and then sit back and watch the show." And that's exactly what voters have done since he's been at Kentucky. When you look at the way that teams with similar talent like Baylor and Connecticut have folded their tents at times this season, it becomes apparent that this attitude isn't a completely fair one.

Okay, I can die now. Seeing Mike Rutherford write this completes my life. There are no surprises left.

For my money, Izzo gets it. He has done more with less than anyone else, although Frank Haith would also be a fine choice.

Kentucky aiming for legendary status

I really think this team is competitive with 1996, better than 1997 or 1998, and very similar to 2003.

"Unless they’re not in school, and that’s probably someone we don’t want, I would tell you that most of them won’t see it, but our fans will see it."

Change is coming because the Southeastern Conference is dominating the sport and the other conferences are tired of it. Now the only things to determine are what to change and how big to go.

Coach of the Year ....

I think these types of awards are very tough for various reasons. Mainly because it is so subjective. Some may vote for the “does more with less”, some may look at teams that have overachieved under difficult circumstance (i.e. injuries) or some other set of criteria. This is why I never bother getting worked up about it. There are many deserving candidates.

One guy that I think should get some consideration and is flying mostly under the radar is Larry Eustachy. He has Southern Miss currently at 21-4. Lost in double OT to Murray and at Memphis by 2 points. I really don’t know what their expectations were this season but taking a wild guess, they have far exceeded them.

That's a good call there, Seven.

Very good. I forgot about Eustachy.

If you haven't heard, Chris Collingworth

Proclaims Patrick Towles the best player in America and Collingsworth is around tons of NFL players. He thinks he could be playing on Sundays NOW. He also wondered why more didn’t recruit him. I can answer that Chris. He was going to be a Wildcat, point blank. I am totally excited.

Wow.

Just … wow!

It may be true-

But C. Collinsworth lives in Ft. Thomas, and his son went to school at Highlands. He may be wearing Blue-bird tinted glasses. But, I’ve seen Towles play on the internet and he looks very good. In interviews, he seems poised and confident. I hope he takes college football by storm next season…

Remember during the NFL lockout ...

… Collinsworth actually coached at Highlands. I know, but I got excited. ’-)

Collinsworth hates all thing UK.

For him to say this either runs against his grain but he really believes it or he is just setting us up for disappointment. With that kind of build up, Joker could find himself in a Bill Curry/Tim Couch scenario if he doesn’t use him quickly.

Whoa, that is one heck of an accusation....

Got any proof of that? REAL proof that is?

I remember him saying some pretty

disparaging remarks about UK more that once. Couldn’t quote any for you.

I also just heard Tee Martin is headed to USC. I can't confirm it, but multiple sources say it is happening.
SBN reports it is from USC's QB Matt Barkley's Twitter.

One would hope SBN wouldn’t be jumping the gun after the early false reporting of Joe Pa’s demise.

Honestly, if not for the fact that I loathe him working for Lane Kiffin.....

Going to USC is a big step up for Tee….If it is legit, he should not turn it down

How long ago wineman?
It has been awhile. My memory may be off but I really seem to remember him

putting UK down.

With all due respect, I don't buy this at all....

I have never heard anyone say that Collinsworth hates all things UK. Sometimes fans can take a “perceived slight” or honest criticism and turn it into a full blown mean spirited, hate filled comment. I see that all the time.

If he does, my guess is that is news to almost everyone and would be rather shocking. Can’t think of any reason he would truly hate UK.

I don't know that he "hates" UK, but I have heard him make some comments on his radio shows in the past

(admittedly it was some times ago, about 4-5 years) that would make one think that he has a very low opinion of UK’s Football program. I have no idea how he fells about it now, but in the past he has been critical enough that I can see where people might think that.

The funny thing is that it is probably very similar to

what I and many others have said about UK football. I have a rather low opinion of the program myself (even though I try to support it).

Anyhow, that was just out of left field for me and wanted to understand where it was coming from.

Oh yeah....we have all had our days!!.....lol
I think it has to do with his being a Gator.
I've seen him in person 3 times now.

I actually thought he looked much better his Junior year. He does have an absolute cannon of an arm, and has enough finesse to get the mid range throws down. Ready for the NFL now? No friggin way! But could he and should he get some snaps his Freshman year? More than likely.

Sounds promising. I'm ready for spring practice.

The Super Bowl is over and I am jonesing. It’s only been a week and a half but seems like months. ’-)

Collinsworth, my apologies.
After the practice - I thought I would see what Bobby had to say on "Knight Watch"

I just had to watch this half-hour show of Knight’s about him analyzing the top college BB 25 teams. I knew what to expect and wasn’t disappointed at all.
He analyzed the following teams out of the top 25:
North Carolina
Duke
Syracruse
Kansas
Missouri

Surprisingly he did cover Murray State and said they could be a very dangerous team in the NCAAT.

No not once were the Cats mentioned as even being a top 25 team. Like I said I wasn’t disappointed in the least with Knight.

I saw this too-

They should not let this man report on college basketball. Maybe he could do a fishing report, but not basketball…

iam4ukintn

IMO Bobby Knight belongs in an institution. Sorry, BK fans, but I couldn’t hold that in any longer.

The question is......what institution would have him?
"Sorry BK fans...."?

I think you’re yelling into an empty house. No BK fans will be here to read your statement. If they were, they should be the ones apologizing for being incredibly flawed in judging character and would need to be put with BK.

Everytime I seen the guy I wish I were a dog with a loaded bladder and Knight a fireplug
The only thing Knight Watches is his own inflated ego.....

unfortunately he doesnt watch his big mouth

He is deeper in denial than

Cleopatra when her barge capsized.

Another +1. Great analogy. Old Cleo baby definetly wasn’t a warrior.
