Bring on the flat-top! Nerlens Noel, the top recruit in the 2012 recruiting class, will visit Lexington on Saturday for Kentucky's game against Ole Miss. There's some debate as to whether the visit would be official or unofficial, since Noel reportedly still has to complete NCAA Clearinghouse requirements to reclassify. The difference would be whether Noel gets his expenses paid or not; either way, he should thoroughly enjoy his visit.
Expect Kentucky head coach John Calipari to sell Noel on being the "next Anthony Davis": not only a premier defender who anchors the Wildcat defense next year, but also a high-efficiency offensive weapon that will receive easy-to-score passes from talented guards like Ryan Harrow.

Noel visited Syracuse last weekend, along with two 2013 prospects: Tilton School teammate Goodluck Okonoboh and St. Benedict's Tyler Ennis. Orange fans showed their appreciation for Noel's visit, even sporting his signature flat-top haircut. After Kentucky, Noel still plans to visit Florida, North Carolina and Georgetown. Two local schools, Providence and Connecticut, round out his list.
While getting Noel on campus is an obvious plus, there's still a ways to go before Noel's recruitment is settled. With UConn likely ineligible for postseason play in 2013, the Huskies will probably fall out of the race. Syracuse already has its center position slotted with fellow 2012 recruit DaJuan Coleman, though picturing a Noel-Coleman frontline is a scary thought. Syracuse appeared to be the favorite to land Noel before he reclassified, and Noel had attended Syracuse's Midnight Madness last October. Noel's other finalists all expect to have openings at the "5" position, allowing Noel to slide in easily and fill a big hole in the middle.
Still, Kentucky fans should feel confident that Calipari is doing all he can to get the talented big man onto campus, not just on Saturday, but starting next semester as well.

Some other news
Shabazz Muhammad is visiting Kansas this weekend along with 2013 prospect Chris Walker, a UK target.
I also caught the Harrison twins in action this past weekend and did a write-up for SBN Blog Barking Carnival. Andrew Harrison had a triple-double in the game.
Per the Baltimore Sun and 5Star Basketball, the Harrisons are down to Maryland, Kentucky, Villanova and Baylor. Maryland should be considered the primary competitor to Kentucky.

Two Thoughts
1) Odds of NN to UK much higher than SM.
2) Baylor biggest competition for Harrison twins because of geography and religion.
Wild Weasel - February 16, 2012
There's nothing like old-time religion out in pancake country - no country for an old guy anyway
KansasUKCat - February 16, 2012
Exactly. If he was raised a Baptist, Baylor MAY already be the winner. Not a cinch but very likely.

JC, isn't Fab Melo thought to be returning to Syracuse as well?
BCinVA - February 16, 2012
Not so sure about Melo
1. Academgic problems may push him to leave
2. If you’re going to make a mistake in the draft, make it a BIG mistake
3. Dude is Brazilian, so I’m sure he’d have no problems if he wanted to o overseas

Didn't the syracuse already get a committ from another center Coleman who is 6'9" and 275lbs
Would they move Noel to forward if they get both. Why would he even consider going there knowing they have filled that position
KansasUKCat - February 16, 2012
Yes, DaJuan Colemen is comitted to them ...
… as is 6’8" Jerami Grant, to go along with Rakheem Christmas, who is in his sophomore year and will certainly be back, Baye Moussa Keita who will be also be back. Plus, there are several other front court players, including CJ Fair and James Southerland who see significant time now.
It is very crowded in the front court for Syracuse, and they will lose (what looks to me like) 3 senior scholarship players (2 more that look like walk-ons) plus likely Melo. So they may have room for him under the limit, but the front court of Syracuse is very crowded with talented players.

"Harrow to Noel....for the JAM!!!"
I had a dream….
kentuckyrules - February 16, 2012
A guy who's going to be around 1 year isn't going to want to share his position.
I feel like it’s between UK and Providence.
mrmondaynite - February 16, 2012
Also ... I guy who's only going to be around for 1 year will want to play with the best players and compete for a NC
not to discount the other teams, but that has to weigh pretty big on a recruits mind …

NBA Evaluates AD
DraftExpress presents a lengthy and detailed look at the likely #1 NBA pick — and the player Nerlens Noel would replace in the Blue lineup.
Wild Weasel - February 16, 2012
Thanks WW that was terrific

Here come old flat top
Wonder how much royalties would be to use “Come Together” as the UK theme song next year.
Wheatgerm - February 16, 2012
My question is ...
Duke and UNC … they aren’t mentioned very often in players like Noel and Muhammad’s final group … Have big time college prospects soured on these 2 ?? At least UNC should have several players exit after this year … have they already reloaded??
ukcris - February 16, 2012
Too bad it couldn't be next Saturday
Game against Vanderbilt would probably be a lot more fun than Ole Miss. Hope Noel comes to UK: flat top + block monster = fun.

Plus
Don’t forget the interview AD had with Ms. Andrews after the Vandy game, that wasrecruiting genius!
BarryM - February 16, 2012 via mobile
I seen Erin but forgot who she was interviewing
KansasUKCat - February 17, 2012
You can't replace The Brow with just anybody.
Has to be someone with a similar effective hair-based trademark – like the flat top Nerlens sports. Remember when Lamb cut his hair? It took him a while to recover from that. If you took The Brow from AD, I don’t even want to think about what could happen. We must have Nerlens in order to keep our UK basketball time-space continuum intact.
GriffinRC - February 18, 2012
Oh and remember when they used to call big centers like Bowie and Sampson aircraft carriers?
I’m ready to bring that term back in vogue with another flat top.
