Saturday Basketball Open Thread

This is just an open thread to chat about the ball games prior to Ole Miss. I'll leave this at the top and keep the other items just under. Use it for discussing anything sports or Kentucky related.

Louisville getting their hats handed to them right off the bat by DePaul........

They look lost….13-4 DePaul 15:49

DePaul is quite a bad team

it was very ugly to watch that game in the 2nd half (didn’t see the first half)

Undefeated conference play....

I am kind of surprised that this is rather rare in all the major conferences. I would have guessed it has happened more than this.

Cat’s Seek Perfection

The last team other than Kentucky to finish unbeaten in one of the six major conferences was Kansas, which went 16-0 in the Big 12 in 2001-02. The Big East never has had an unbeaten, while Duke is the most recent ACC team to finish unbeaten (16-0 in 1998-99). It’s Indiana in the Big Ten (18-0 in 1975-76) and UCLA in the Pac-12 (14-0 in 1977-78, when the league still was known as the Pac-8).

honestly I am like you....never thought about it much though Seven.....but I figured someone had done it since
I never root for UofL, UNC, IU or Kansas....

but it actually helps UK if they win. As of today, UK ranks around 52 in strength of schedule depending on where you look. That is rather weak. So those clowns at those other schools could help us out a bit and win.

That being said, I will not cry if they lose :)

how does

this strength of schedule compare with the espn power ranking numbers?

I have no idea...not sure I have seen their Power Rankigs
Watching Marquette

and Uconn and they are running both numbers on today’s games. I have not seen this either.

Is this what you are talking about?

College Basketball Power Index (BPI)

BPI

I think Bilas put this together (among other people)

That looks like it.

I found a few references to articles on Insider only that tout the rankings as superior to others including NCAA. Typical for ESPN

I think it is supposed to serve as an alternative to the RPI

which a lot of people do not believe in. So yeah, ESPN will jump all over it lol

There was a long article

a few days ago (and not on Insider) that compared the BPI to other systems.

Just found one....

this is from article as to what comprises the rankings.

the College Basketball Power Index (BPI) is a team rating that accounts for all team scores in every Division I game, whether they were at home, on the road, or on a neutral court, whether they won, the pace of the game, the strength of their opponent, and whether any of their top five players (by minutes per game) was missing.

Intersting to say the least...we shall see how this thing plays out
Saw a picture over at KSR of the UK team with Mike Tomlin (Steelers head coach)

and 2 other Steelers coaches. Coach Cal is amazing. The “celebs” just love to come check out the “Greatest Show on the Hardwood”

The Godfather! LOL
no doubt....so who is Fredo?
Good question...

Scared to say??

How goes it Bro??

Maybe that traitor in Louisville? ;)

I am still shaking off the cobwebs from last night….bout 80% right now :)

LOL Yeah, good as choice as any...

I hear ya, woke up a bit thick-headed myself! Stayed up too late watching a movie, so of course, that means one extra adult beverage! You know the drill…

LOL

I am watching an all time classic “Smokey and the Bandit”

“There’s no way, no way that you came from my loins. Soon as I get home, first thing I’m gonna do is punch yo mamma in da mouth! " Sheriff Buford T Justice

You could argue that that's Jackie Gleason's best role, ever! :-)

“You want anything Jr?”
“Hushpuppies, Daddy”

and

“But Daddy, my hat blew off…”
“I hope your head was in it!”

lol classic
watched that awhile back

laughed my ass off….again, been long time since I’d seen it

it ages very well....never get tired of it
The Louisvillel

guy to me is more like Michael who wound up for all the wrong reasons becoming the type of person he initially despised.

good point.....

I guess BCG could be Sonny. Crazy and an early demise (as far as his stint here)

‘ere. ’ere. Couldn’t agree more old boy. IHLIL. (I hear laughter in Lexington.)

muuaahahahaha

(in my most evil voice)

Hey Seven. That sounds like “The Thing” From another world. Hee.

UofL in OT versus DePaul

and DePaul is terrible

I still don't see how UL is ranked...

’Bout as over-rated as Dook!

yeah, i guess someone has to be ranked

after the Top 6 or 7 they are all about the same to me…

I don't disagree with that, but UL has taken some whoopin's this year...
There is a real paucity of good teams this year

after you get out of the top 10 or so, teams are just weak.

Catch up with you folks in a bit...

Gonna install an ice maker in the downstairs fridge.

That sounds fun...later dude
Anybody want to WATCH the game on TV and LISTEN to the radio ??

Can’t do it because of the twelve second delay in the satellite TV hookup. Well, there is a cure and it’s FREE !! All It takes is a home type computer and a radio with an earphone plug..

Do a Google search and download “RADIODELAY.”

It’s free and doesn’t clog up your computer with spybugs or ads or anything. There is an instructional guide that runs 8-10 pages. Free. Get it too.

Basically you plug the radio into your computer, it delays the audio by 8 or 13 seconds or whatever you need, and plays it though the TV or another radio with an auxiliary input. You can listen to the UK announcers who know what is going on, and actually call the game, instead of just watching it.

I’ve been doing this for two years now, and it’s worked perfectly every time. All you need to do is find the proper type of cables (ANY electronic store), hook it up and listen. Just like the good ole days in 1969 in a Fraternity house at UK. And no BS from people who don’t know the game.

It does take a few minutes to tune it in at first, so don’t wait ’til 10 minutes before the game the first time. After that, it just takes seconds to get it running.

Try it. You’ll like it.

Cool......

Hey I’m from Ashland. You a Tomcat?

YES !!

Classof ’65. Thats 1965. Anymore I seem to have to make that distinction.

Nice....Go Tomcats!!

Thanks Kat. I copied and pasted your comment into MS Word and saved it to my Desk Top. Great idea. +1

GLAD

to help. I’m all for BETTER listening and BETTER basketball. And just maybe, no Dick Vitale.

Hey I'm Just doen the road from you. in summit

small world. BCHS 77

Bama is whoopin' up on the Vols....

47-35 with 8:30 to go. Grant is rockin’ the bow tie too!

DeMarcus Cousins: Laid Back & Loveable

Sporting News with the Boogie that Cats fans came to know and love (still do).

Excellent article WW (thanks for sharing)

I got a kick out of this line…

"On the court he may be tough, but off the court he’s scared of the dog,"
Another great link from you WW - an excellent read about an outstanding young man
Couple questions

1) Thanks for that radio tip. I haven’t checked, but I bet there is an app for you iphone or droid. I will check and get.
2) Anyone going to the Murray/St Mary game. I am telling you go. You are going to love the Aussies playing for SM.
3) Anyone see that bowtie A Grant is wearing. Beautiful…maybe something for Cal to do in the near future.
4) Sister and broinlaw are going to the game…row J across from the benches I think she said.
5) After boxing today, I watched several different games while on the treadmill. You know, nobody plays defense like the Cats. Forget the shot blocking, they just don’t do it.

Here we go...

Everybody ready??

There is Mr Fix-it

Got a friend stopping by to watch the game so won’t see u houligan’s in the Open Thread.

Baylor lost at home to a pedestrian Kansas St. 57-56

Just as I thought, Baylor is a paper tiger. Loads of talent but just a top team.

*not a top team...oops
