I watched about 15 (game) minutes of Syracuse-St. John's
St. John’s does not look all that good.
Sometimes I wonder whether zone defense is majorly the way to go. (1)Opposing teams are not used to seeing it at all. (2)It is way less physically demanding than man defense, leaving more energy for offense and other facets of the game.
All this said, Syracuse is not that scary to me after seeing this game. They do a very good job covering the perimeter, which is usually considered the weakness of a zone, but it’s not for Syracuse. However, I think that if you can bring some physicality, especially down low or on drives, Syracuse’s defense is not nearly as formidable. Their offense is nothing to wrote home about.

Didn't get that game here.
But the SI article Glenn linked said that SU’s weaknesses on the defense end were rebounding and fouling.
On playing zone: it does have weaknesses as well – box out assignments, potential of a lack of help defender for a pick, and can be overloaded.

While a good zone defense is very effective
in certain game situations, I think Coach Cal would not be as effective in recruiting the top players if he went that route frequently. The pro scouts like to see what defenders can do in the man to man played in the league. If you can play good defense every game, the occasional lapse in offensive performance can more easily be forgiven.

Former Cat scores career-high 26 and Pistons win.

Watching Vandy/UF
Lundquist is impressed by Cal’s ability to get guys to play defense. He made a couple of positive statements about UK after Brando pointed out the weakness of the conference schedule so far. I know what you mean, Verne.

Yeah, heard that.
It needed to be said.
Glenn Logan - February 4, 2012
That and I couldn't resist the Ernest allusion

Vandy down 4 ....
Can Vandy steal one on the road?
UKWildcats #1 - February 4, 2012
I believe Florida has this game.

Gators Prevail
73-65, nice win especially considering Patric Young had only 2 points and 4 boards. Perimeter defense key to defeating UF.
Wild Weasel - February 4, 2012
Cats can make it really hard for anyone if they take down Florida on Tuesday
Glenn Logan - February 4, 2012
Which player does MKG guard?
GoLightning - February 4, 2012
UK is killing me pessimism.
Both teams (Vandy/UF) had stretches where they looked good. I found myself thinking, “They look tough I can’t wait to play them.” instead of, “Uh-oh, they will be tough. Don’t want to play them.”

Vaught's View: Harrow
Larry Vaught’s first of 2-part interview with UK transfer PG Ryan Harrow. I expect Teague to return which creates and interesting situation next year.
Wild Weasel - February 4, 2012
I can't decide if Teague is going to return or not
tough to guage
kcgard2 - February 4, 2012
I doubt that he has decided yet.

Thoughts watching OSU/UW
Thank the Lord I was not born in Big 10(ish) country.

Maryland is giving UNC all they can handle....
outrunning AND outgunning them
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
UNC looks stiff.....they are fouling anything that moves and getting away with it, and their transition game is weak
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
The game is being ridiculously called in UNC's favor.

Maryland with some uncle Mo
at the break.
