This game was as good as it gets. (via Vectorportal)
A full postmortem will have to wait. I want to eat and relax awhile before dissecting the game, but there isn't that much to say -- it was kind of one-sided.
So chat about the game in here. Enjoy, and relax. Kentucky played great, we all know that, and that's where we need to keep our focus.
Go, 'Cats!

oh that was stupid !! LOL
Bluehound - February 4, 2012
Stuck on stupid.
GoLightning - February 4, 2012
Unfortunately South Carolina listened
to Jimmy Dyke’s advice. If they had kept going inside Anthony would have gotten 10 blocks at least.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
I thought "stuck on stupid"
referred to leaving him open for the lob.
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
You are right. My bad.
But it applied equally as well when we were on defense.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
absolutely....
wish they had driven in two more times!
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
heeheehee.....
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
He just did it once, so he is not "stuck on stupid."
GoLightning - February 4, 2012
I not tupid!!
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
Thought I had been switched to the juvenile site. :)
kydamcat - February 4, 2012
just young at heart
Bluehound - February 4, 2012
Glenn
I am relieved that SC didn’t disscover a way to distort the space-time continuum! LOL
attilla63 - February 4, 2012
They didn't but I believe they are convinced
that Anthony Davis has!
kywineman - February 4, 2012
Anthony Davis
is everybody’s worst nightmare and I bet the loves it. I know I do.
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
of all the things he did tonight...
i loved it when he switched and was on their PG. he stayed with him on the drive and then blocked the shot. how many 6’ 10’ men can guard a PG?
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
*bet "he" loves it.*
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
Why do I have this overwhelming desire to dig out old 33LP's and listen to 70's classic rock anthems??
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
Now we are bullies who beat up on South Carolina?????????????????????????
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
From where is this coming?
GoLightning - February 4, 2012
Reece Davis said it on SC Gameday
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
And Digger was our biggest cheerleader.
When Davis scoffed at Digger for bragging on our defensive game tonight because it was only South Carolina, Digger strongly came back at him with not just tonight.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
yep.....world may end.....
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
and gotlieb said...
coming into the game he thought cuse was the best team – now he thinks it is uk…
maybe the mayans are onto something with the 2012 thing
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
there will be a run on bottled water in Kentucky
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
Speaking of the Mayans
their calender is supposed to be the ending of one time and the beginning of the next. I think it is the time it would take for aliens to return to a planet 2500 years away and return. I just hope they are tall and can play basketball.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
if they are...
you can bet Cal has been to their HS games…
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Good one.
As much as he gets around, he may have solved that space/time continuum thing.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
Cal wouldn't recruit any Mayans this year.....
Said they would all be one and dones……
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
actually...
where have you been? thats ALL he recruits
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
lol.....!!!
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
He means one and dones as in no NBA career either
sweasyf - February 4, 2012
ah, got it...
so no time for #9

Best post ever. You are good!
kydamcat - February 4, 2012
thanks....
i had a 9 year head start on everyone watching cal for 9 years in memphis!
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Do you see any differences in Cal
here at UK vs his Memphis days?
kywineman - February 4, 2012
two things off the top of my head
and they may be related…
1) he does not seem to have as many knuckle heads on the team. that may be because there is less distraction in lex than in memphis
2) he does not throw kids under the bus in the press. often he would use the media – paper – to call a kid out. he could be pretty harsh.
maybe the reason for the 2 above is that he has learned how to better judge a kid when he recruits them.
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Thanks for the great info memphis.
a2d2 - February 4, 2012
but maybe
some knuckleheads need to be thrown under the bus
Bluehound - February 4, 2012
oh i agree....
it was effective more often than not. that is why i say the two may be related. he really has not had a knuckle head bad enough to throw under the bus. Darnell Dobson was probably the closest to one…
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Well.....
There was Orton, but he took care of himself.
hoboat33 - February 4, 2012
He could not hold a candle...
to the knuckleheads that came thru U of M :)
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Prob right.
Orton wasn’t a malicious or misbehaving knucklehead just your plain immature, whiny knucklehead.
hoboat33 - February 4, 2012
yes...
i am talking about club going, gun toting, girl friend slapping knuckleheads with posses that pose in pictures flashing gang signs.
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
My impression concerning knuckleheads
is that he had some borderline knuckleheads in his first team here at UK. They were going to go to Memphis for the most part until he came here and they followed him. I think he has been recruiting a better class of players now that he pretty much has his pick of the litter. Better grades, better attitudes.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
Agree...
I will give him credit for one thing – he never recruited memphis kids. took flak for it but btwn posses, aau coaches and high school coaches it would have been a nightmare.
btw – jarnell stokes’ high school team is ranked #1 in the city – even without him…
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
i would add...
that i used to go to the games and wish that the same excitement you felt at the games in memphis could be at uk.
i also believe that he does go right up to the line on recruiting. however, the memphis athletic dept was/is so dysfunctional, it is easy to see how bad things happened. i have faith that sandy bell (?) will not let some of the things that happened at memphis happen in lexington.
people forget, memphis had a final four vacated long before Cal was here – ironically, it was the one memphis played in lexington
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
have you gotten to go to a game at Rupp yet Memphis?
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
yes...
the last 3 years we have made the afternoon game just before Christmas…
I bring my 3 kids up the night before, we spend the night with my parents and the early start gives us time to get home after the game.
my wife loves the two days of an empty house right before Christmas – best gift i could give her! and you know what they say when momma is happy!
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
everybody happy ;)
blue oregon - February 4, 2012

BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
One of those aliens already got here
and his nae is Anthony Davis. His defensive technology dwarf that of humankind!

Tar Heel Homer.
Big Blue Daddy - February 4, 2012
Hubert has been wearing thin
on Digger the past few weeks on the show. I’d day it’s Hubert’s last year there since Digger is too right for the show.

MKG could have hit his FTs like he usually does, but everything else clicked.

I dont think you could play any better than they did that first half......
and the second half was pretty dang good too
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
Report from the JP
Called Mother and asked if she watched the game. She said what do you think we would be doing? Her view was “I really likes Davis. It is nice to seem him smile, but he needs to do something about that mouthpiece.” Mother also said, “It was so nice to see that nice Terrance Jones smile. Sometimes he just worries too much.”
About sums it up for me.

Did Anybody Else Notice.......
Not one charge call ! Maybe Cal has gotten through with his message.
longtime - February 4, 2012
yes....
there was one drive early on that i thought for sure would be a charge – i think it was davis. but it was an and-1. i had the same thought – message sent, message received.
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
oh hi,
sorry, didn’t see your post. But, yes, I can’t recall exactly, but it seemed we managed to avert the dreaded charge call.
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
hey, longtime!
yes, I noticed. There was one time where I thought maybe, but it was not to be.
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
Hey Back
Were the girls in uniforms?
longtime - February 4, 2012
no.
sadly for them, but lucky for me, they were taking late naps and missed most of the game. Been kinda sick around our house. Kids are like petri dishes, no kidding.
Uniforms and pom-poms are at the ready for next game though!
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
No blarges either. Yea!
GoLightning - February 4, 2012
ok, color me an idiot.
what’s a blarge??
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
Double foul. block and a charge
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
Oh BSC.....you are far from home arent you??
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
How far?
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
fair question....
i had not heard of it either until a couple of weeks ago
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
It was called at LSU if I recall correctly.
Two refs simultaneously call a block and charge. By rule, a foul goes to both players.
GoLightning - February 4, 2012
aha!
well, that would explain it. I missed the LSU game entirely. Didn’t get to be privy to blarges or the hard foul everyone is talking about.
Thanks.
BigSkyCat - February 4, 2012
Kentucky charge (blarge) foul was on Teague if i member correctly
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
it's ok BSC.......
the truth is, according to Einstein, it’s almost a virtual impossibility that it could happen…..
Of course if an impossible call could be made against anyone, it would be us….
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
Physicists now believe
that Einstein’s Theory of Relativity may be wrong. If that is so, anything goes.
kywineman - February 4, 2012

he defies physics
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
What was it Bugs Bunny used to say?
“I know that defies the law of gravity, but I never studied law”…..

You sure that wasn't Marvin the Martian?
kywineman - February 4, 2012

well, yes, of course

there is one in the airport if you ever have a lay over

More UK Fans or USC Fans at the Game?
What your thought?
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
I'd say 60-40 Carolina fans ... just a guess ... I was in the lower level and there was an awful lot of blue ...
ukcris - February 4, 2012
Thats incredible...
i am jealous – don’t you go every year?
i only get ole miss every other year. Miss State is usually a week game and i have had to travel the last couple of times
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Columbia is less than an hour from the house (I feel lucky) so most years I can get tickets and I go ... at the same time Ga is about 2 hours away

Yeah, Mostly USC But More UK Than Ever
I sat in Row 12 at center court among empty USC season ticket holder seats.
FortyYearCatFan - February 4, 2012
just getting in ... I thought Davis had a chance at the triple double ... he only needed two boards and two blocks and Cal put him back in briefly
ukcris - February 4, 2012
took him out after a spill on a foul of an SC player....no sense getting him hurt
he sat more of the second half than he played I believe
Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012

Greg Alan Edwards - February 4, 2012
That is unbelievable.....
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Yep ... Vargas got some good playing time in tonight ... If Vargas takes one of your defenders down the lane and dunks on him you know you are doing pretty bad

blue oregon - February 4, 2012

memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Question .... we now face the toughest part of the season .... starting Tuesday - when Florida visits ... which team/venue will give us the toughest game???

blue oregon - February 4, 2012

Benches under the basket along baseline. Freshman need to be coached
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
I think it is almost time
that we considered these guys to be honorary sophomores.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
Ist year players are 1st year players
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
My point is that they
log so many minutes of play, they are at the level of experience of most sophomores.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
Cal was happy that Wiltjer took 14 shots in such a short time ... he is benefitting from the extra play
ukcris - February 4, 2012
Got your point. Visiting Coach huge disadvantage with bench under basket.
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
I've always hated that ... more on Teague to run the team - but I think he's up to it
ukcris - February 4, 2012
great test for Teague
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
We had 17 assists to only 3 turnovers as a team tonight that's says a lot
ukcris - February 4, 2012
Agree. IMO bench location, large hostile crowd and a pretty good team what makes Vandy
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
the toughest venue this year.
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
yes - glad it is deeper into the season
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Florida, Vandy, Miss St away
all 3 of those will be tough. Depending on how we get through them……..looking good.
sweasyf - February 4, 2012
not sure what is wrong with Vandy - that game bothers me and MIssSt w/ Moultrie is looking pretty tough as well
ukcris - February 4, 2012
This late in the season
and Vandy seems to still be looking for its offensive identity.
hoboat33 - February 4, 2012
Don't know what's taking them so long.
I found them to be offensive several games ago.
Especially their coach.
kywineman - February 4, 2012

memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
so what do you think? Kevin for Kevin
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
yes...
memphis wildcat - February 4, 2012
Coach Stallings is such a baby when he talks about KY.
Fun to imagine him as Kevin from the office as he coaches :)
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
I love the way this schedule is playing out.
We now play the best teams, ideal for tuning up for the post season. I hope they find weaknesses and point them out to us. Of course it would be great if we win those games anyway.
kywineman - February 4, 2012
I agree completely .. while I don;t want to see us lose ever ... this tough stretch will pay big dividends in March

Mizzu wins

I can see why Anderson
had such a hard time leaving there to coach at Arkansas, but it was now or never if he wanted to return to Arkansas. Great game.

Anderson is an alum. Wondered why he left, especially since they moved to SEC.
blue oregon - February 4, 2012
He was an assistant under Richardson
for years at Arkansas, even their National Championship year. The fans have been clamoring for him for years and many were disappointed when Pelphrey was hired instead of Anderson last time. At that time, Richardson hadn’t been gone long enough and a lawsuit from RIchardson was still pending against UA.
